Oppo R1 price and specs get official

The Oppo R1 has been mentioned online a few times now, and there were a few hands-on shots of this super smartphone, now we have a few more details for you covering the specs.

Many of you have been probably waiting a lifetime for this new smartphone, and the good news is that the specs are very good indeed. The Oppo R1 comes with a 5-inch IPS display boasting a resolution of 1280 x 720 pixels with a 1.3GHz quad-core MediaTek MT6582 processor and 1GB of RAM.

The handset is 142.7 x 70.4 x 7.1mm in size and weighs only 140 grams. The Oppo R1 comes with an 8MP camera on the rear with f2.0 aperture as well as a 5MP front-facing camera for video calls.

Other key Oppo R1 specs include 16GB internal storage, WiFi, Bluetooth, TD-SCDMA/GSM, Android 2.2 Jelly Bean. It does not come with microSD card slot for memory expansion, which is a little disappointing.

The Oppo R1 can be purchased via the Oppo online for 2,498 Yuan, which is about $410. As far as the rest of the world is concerned we have no idea if the Oppo R1 will release anywhere else.

The Oppo R1 is a lovely smartphone with all the specs in the right places, it is a shame that it does not come with a microSD card slot and we can see this one thing being a problem with many Android users. However, the Oppo R1 should be released in USA and UK as well.

Is the Oppo R1 smartphone one thing you’d consider?

This year we have seen both Samsung and LG releasing smartphones that have curved or flexible displays, which may not be to everyone’s taste, but today we have a Samsung Galaxy S5 with a curved display imagined.

We have been seeing a number of concept phone ideas recently concentrating on the Samsung Galaxy S5, and today’s one comes courtesy of Galaxy S5Info. As you can see the device has a curved display with the rest of the smartphone is based on a lot of the recent rumours surrounding the upcoming handset.

This includes the 5.25-inch 2K flexible display which was recently rumoured to be not coming to the Galaxy S5, but the concept was done before these latest rumours. Other features include a 64-bit Octa core processor paired with 4GB of RAM running the Android 4.4 KitKat operating system along with a quad surround speaker system.

There is a rear facing 16-megapixel ISOCELL camera paired with a front facing 4-megapixel shooter for video calls and self portraits, and we also have that much rumoured iris scanner that takes Apple’s Touch ID to another level.

The Galaxy S5 is manufactured from aluminium but it’s up for debate how many smartphone fans would want to see a Galaxy S5 with a curved display.

Would you want to see a Samsung Galaxy S5 looking like this?

We already know that they aren’t putting a curved screen in the S5. It is 5.25 2k Super AMOLED flat screen. And 3GB of ram not 4.

Other specs of the Aqua i-4+ include an 8-megapixel rear camera with autofocus and LED flash, a 1.3-megapixel front-facing camera, 2000 mAh battery, 3.5mm audio jack and FM radio. It runs the Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean operating system.

This is a Dual SIM handset (GSM + WCDMA) with Dual Standby and connectivity options include 3G HSPA+, Bluetooth 3.0, Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n and GPS. There’s also a proximity sensor, motion sensor and light sensor and the phone comes in Pearl Blue or Pearl White color options.

Some of the features of the Aqua i-4+ include WeChat, Intex Cloud, Intex Play and OLX. The phone will be available from Intex Squares stores, various hypermarkets and many other retail outlets as well as Indian e-commerce sites.

What are your thoughts on the Intex Aqua i-4+? Do you think the pricing sounds reasonable given the specs of this Intex phone? We always appreciate comments from our readers in India, so let us know.

Since the Android 4.4 KitKat update was launched we’ve been following the progress of its rollout to various smartphones and tablets. We know that many of our readers are eagerly waiting for the update to arrive for the LG G2 and there’s promising news as the LG G2 Android 4.4 update has appeared bang on time.

There have been plenty of leaks about this update for the LG G2. Previously we’ve informed readers of news that a French carrier has the update scheduled for late January while LG in Canada has said the update would arrive for the G2 there sometime in late Q1, 2014.

A couple of weeks ago we also heard further news that LG Korea had announced Android 4.4 KitKat would start rolling out for the LG G2 there sometime this month. We can now tell you that Android 4.4 has now started being pushed out for South Korean LG G2 owners as an OTA (over-the-air) update.

The update began rolling out on Christmas Eve and will come in phases, with Korean carrier KT said to be pushing it out sequentially. However, it’s not clear whether this sequence relates to when the device was purchased, model numbers or some other factor.

The LG G2 update to Android 4.4 is around 637.39MB in size. While the release in Korean doesn’t mean that the update is about to appear for the phone in every other region, it’s at least a good sign that there are no problems or delays. This news should therefore be encouraging to LG G2 owners elsewhere.

We’ll be following further developments for the Android 4.4 KitKat update for the LG G2 and will let readers know as it spreads to other regions. Are you waiting hopefully for this update to roll out to your LG G2?

LG G3 2014 specs supposedly leaked

While both the last two Nexus smartphones have proven to be quite successful for LG the company is also looking to have its own branded smartphones in as many hands as possible. It is doing this by offering consumers handsets that have features to rival other devices from other manufacturers, and the LG G3 specs for 2014 have supposedly been leaked.

It is being claimed in Korea that the replacement for the LG G2 will feature some specs that would see the handset easily take on what is rumoured for the Samsung Galaxy S5 release. These include a 5.5-inch IPS display with a resolution of 2560 x 1440, which has long been rumoured for the S5.

The report is also again claiming that the handset will be powered by an Octa core processor that has the codename of LG Odin that has been heard previously just over a month ago, which could also be using a 64-bit set up.

Another feature that could match the Samsung Galaxy S5 is the rear camera that is claimed to also be 16-megapixels. New smartphone releases for 2014 look set to offer consumers a level that we have never seen before, but many will be hoping that these high end specifications are not at the expense of a reasonable level of battery life.

Do you like the sound of the rumoured LG G3?

If it is anything like the G2 this will be simply amazing.

rene

well if they can combine all of that with the same battery they are using right now, that could be a low blow to the competing high end

iphone-5s-vs-moto-x

The Apple iPhone 5S and Motorola Moto X are two smartphones that have arrived on the market in recent months. Both are significant offerings that have received plenty of praise in reviews, and today we have an Apple iPhone 5S vs. Motorola Moto X video review that offers a comparison of these devices.

One of the major differences of these phones is that the iPhone 5S is an Apple iOS device while the Moto X is an Android handset. This alone will be a deciding factor for some potential buyers but others who are open to the choice of operating platforms might wonder which would be best for them.

Both phones have been commended for the user experience, and the 5-minute YouTube video that we’ve placed below this story shows how they stand up against each other. The video begins with looking at the designs of the iPhone 5S and Moto X, with the premium build iPhone 5S being highly admired.

On the other hand the Moto X might not look as fancy but still has a good build quality while Motorola also makes a big point of the fact that the Moto X is assembled in the USA. The comparison then details the displays of both devices with the Moto X having a larger 4.7-inch screen as opposed to the 4-inch display of the iPhone 5S.

Performance is also delved into with processor information given, before the video moves on to the software experiences, features, and gaming performance. Then battery life is discussed before finally the pricing of these phones is given, with the Moto X being far cheaper in this respect.

The video will hopefully give you a good oversight into what these two phones offer and we’d like to know which of these phones most appeals to you. If you were buying a new smartphone right now would you opt for the iPhone 5S, the Moto X, or maybe another smartphone altogether?

iLynx

I actually own both phones and switch between both often. However I keep coming back to the iPhone 5s mainly because of how well everything is integrated. Its a great ecosystem ESPECIALLY if you use a Mac and/or iPad.

However the customability of the Moto X and all Android devices is second to none. Both are great devices and you cant go wrong with either one. Neither are perfect.

Protagonist66

It’s really hard to believe people saying things like this are familiar with android at all. Yes you most likely have use it but actually know more about it. High-end android device like Moto X with decent configuration is the most integrated device you may own. You don’t have to own “Apple only” devices you may own ANYTHING with usb, bluetooth, wlan, nfc, etc.

Protagonist66

Even though you’re pretty fast scrolling your fingers across both screens it doesn’t quite qualify you to make decent comparisons. This is one of the most biased comparison I’ve seen long time. Here’s some advises to your next comparison.

First of all you really should get rid of those biased filler words and opinions “highly admired” etc. Also you should tell us exactly what phones you’re reviewing, Example: Verizon Moto X 32Gb, S4 Pro. Because there’s actually several editions.

Next: What comes to the actual reviewing, you should have been using both OS so you’d know what you’re talking about. Also first you should give us facts and specs from both of them phones and even better some benchmarks to compare. Use text on your video.

It’s really annoying to hear you praising iPhone and hardly mention Moto X without using any facts. Here’s basically you’r design comparison: “One of the best made, best looking, best feeling, best flying, best sparkling diamond and sapphire filled perfection and qualities top notch” versus: “It may not have all the fancy materials, but it has that quality other android phones has. As you notice front camera isn’t a perfect circle..”

So what I’m saying is: Use facts try to keep everything at the concept and give your own opinions as opinions like saying: “in my opinion, I think it’s not/it is…” and use opinions only if necessary.

With the launch of two new iPhone models this year has led to speculation that we will see something similar next year with an all new flagship model alongside a cheaper alternative. Today we have a new video for you that show off the iPhone 6C design in a production video.

Earlier this month we saw some concept phone ideas for a couple of 2014 iPhone release designs that were going under the name of iPad Air and iPhone 6C, which both had their own accompanying videos.

The team behind these ideas Set Solution have now published another YouTube video that is concentrating on the iPhone 6C, and as you can see the device has a curved display. The video shows the smartphone during the production process that is automated.

We see the production line with the handsets moving along with the Apple logo etched onto the rear of the smartphone, and the completed device is shown with Siri asked a question why we should have an iPhone with a curved display, but we won’t spoil the answer for you.

The video then shows the handset off in a variety of bright colours and what the C stands for which is obviously Curve. Check the video out yourself and tell us if you would like to see Apple release such a product.

The Samsung Galaxy S4 has a 5-inch Full HD display and camera-wise includes a 13-megapixel rear camera with autofocus, LED flash, image stabilization, and a 2-megapixel front-facing camera. Both the Lumia 1520 and Galaxy S4 also have an impressive array of camera features.

The YouTube video that we’ve embedded for your viewing convenience below this story starts by showing images captured with the cameras of both of these devices. The images were shot of the same subjects in various conditions, including low light, close-ups, outdoors etc., and are shown alongside each other for easy comparison.

The second half of the video shows video footage taken with the two smartphones. It’s an interesting look at how the cameras of the Galaxy S4 and Lumia 1520 stack up against each other and although we have our own opinion on which camera offers the better results, we’d like to hear what you think?

Do you think one of these two smartphones outperforms the other when it comes to camera results? If so, do you feel the Galaxy S4 or Lumia 1520 offers the better camera experience, and is this the same in every condition or do you feel there are mixed results? Let us know with your comments.
