The Apple iPhone 5S and iPhone 5C are on plenty of wish lists this Christmas. If you’ve been intending to purchase one but haven’t got round to it yet we have some good news, with details of iPhone 5S and 5C last-dash Target price offers.

A few days ago we told readers about iPhone 5S and 5C Walmart deals and now Target is getting in on the action. The Target deals start tomorrow (Sunday) through Christmas Eve on Tuesday and will replace existing promotions on iPhones.

From Sunday the price of the iPhone 5S is $179.99 on a two-year contract and you’ll also receive a Target gift card to the value of $25. The price of the iPhone 5C in the sale that starts tomorrow is only $30 on a two-year contract and you’ll also receive a $30 gift card from Target, effectively making the cost zero.

As well as these price deals, if you trade in a working smartphone during the rest of December you can get an extra $25 store credit on top of the value of the phone, as long as the total is put towards buying an on-contract phone.

It’s worth remembering that many other retailers such as Walmart as we mentioned above are offering iPhone 5C and 5S price deals at the moment. Therefore it’s worth shopping around before you set off to the stores and make your purchase.

Will you be buying an iPhone 5C or 5S from Target this holiday season? Why not let us know where you’ve seen the best deals on Apple iPhones by sending your comments.

lg-g2-verizon-update

We know that many of our readers are keenly waiting for the LG G2 Android 4.4 KitKat update, and we’ve been keeping readers informed on developments regarding this. The update’s release has been made official for the LG G2 in Korea starting this month, and now Verizon’s LG G2 is receiving an update, but this one fails to excite as it’s not 4.4.

Alas the LG G2 on Verizon update that is now rolling out does not bring Android 4.4, which will no doubt disappoint many owners. However, it does bring various changes and bug fixes so is still worth having.

This is an OTA (over-the-air) update to software version VS98012B and it will be pushed out in stages so you might need to be a little patient. It’s a 172MB update and contains a Google Security patch (please note the word is that this will break root if you have a rooted handset).

Just some of the other changes are improvements to video playback quality when viewing on websites, the Verizon Cloud app now being preloaded, and improvements to voice quality. Check the source link below for full details.

As far as the Android 4.4 update for the LG G2 is concerned we’ve seen plenty of leaks about its arrival. Asides from LG Korea confirming it will arrive for the LG G2 this month in its home country, a French carrier has it scheduled for sometime in late January and says testing is already taking place.

Hopefully it won’t be too much longer, but for the meantime this Verizon LG G2 update is ready now. If you haven’t yet received notification of the new update you might want to check your phone under Settings too see if it’s there.

Are you a Verizon LG G2 owner, and if so have you already received this latest update? Are you looking forward to Android 4.4 KitKat?

We’re now just days from Christmas but plenty of people are still intending to buy the Apple iPad Air before the big day. With that in mind we thought we’d let you know about an iPad Air price deal available at Target from tomorrow, and there’s also an offer for the first-generation iPad mini.

Target is offering some good prices on devices for the holiday season and a new sale starts tomorrow (Sunday December 22) through Christmas Eve (Tuesday). Deals at this time will replace existing price offers available at Target.

From tomorrow the Apple iPad Air can be purchased at Target for $479 and buyers will also get a $20 gift card, in effect bringing the price down to $459. The lowest-priced iPad Air from Apple online is priced at $499.

The original iPad mini will be available priced at $299 with buyers also receiving a $30 Target gift card, effectively reducing the price to $269. (This is the same deal as is currently available right now at Target). The price of the iPad mini first-generation is $299 from Apple online.

Both of these deals will save you money from the prices at Apple at the moment so you might want to take this into account before you buy. You might also be interested in Target price deals from tomorrow for the iPhone 5S and 5C that we detailed earlier today. As well as this we also recently gave information on Verizon prepaid plans for the iPad Air.

Are you intending to purchase either of these tablets over the holiday season? Let us know with your comments.

Sickweather scanner app to avoid fever zones

The team here on Phones Review like to bring our readers news about some of the mobile applications that are constantly being released, and some of these new apps have some really clever uses. Today we have news of the Sickweather scanner app that will help you to avoid fever zones.

This is the time of year that a lot of bugs are going around that are easily spread, but this app has been designed to help users to try and avoid going to areas where there is a lot of sickness. The app will alert users of areas that there is a lot of sickness by gathering mentions of ill health via social media, and plots them on a map.

The app provides real time alerts when you enter a sick zone where there have been people reporting that they have been unwell. Users can choose from a number of different illnesses such as Flu, Norovirus, Pink Eye, and Whopping Cough.

It will provide reports via blue sick map markers with the option of tapping them to gain information when they were originally reported, and more recent reports are marked in red within one day, orange for two days, and yellow for one week.

Sickweather 1.0 is available free on the App Store for owners of the iPhone, iPod Touch, and iPad running iOS 7 or later.

Nokia Asha 502 vs Lumia 420 in budget decision

Nokia’s budget range of mobile phones have always been hugely popular especially in emerging markets and the company has now officially launched a whole host of devices in India, and today we are looking at the Nokia Asha 502 vs. Asha 503 vs. Asha 500 in a budget decision.

Following the company announcing the release dates for the Nokia Lumia 525 and Lumia 1320 for consumers in India we also saw the official launch for a new range of Asha handsets in the country. The Nokia Asha 500 is priced at Rs. 4,499 and features a 2.8-inch display at a resolution of 320 x 240.

The device also features a 2-meagpiaxel rear camera along with Bluetooth, Wi-Fi and an FM radio although the handset is only 2G. This compares to the Nokia Asha 502 and Asha 503 that both provide a 3-inch 320 x 240 display with Corning Gorilla Glass 2 protection running the Asha V1.1 platform.

They both have a 5-megapixel rear camera with an LED flash while the 503 has 3G connectivity while the 502 only has 2G like the 500. The Nokia Asha 502 has a recommended retail price of Rs. 5,969 while the 503 is priced at Rs. 6,799, while all three handsets offer dual SIM support and have microSD card slots.

The handsets also come preloaded with the WhatsApp messaging service and users will get three months free access to the Nokia Music service. The three handsets were originally unveiled back in October but have taken a while to reach consumers in India.

BBM to take on Google Voice app and Siri

Mobile users now have access to a number of different ways to communicate with their friends or family with apps available from a number of different companies, and BBM looks set to take on the likes of the Google Voice app and Siri.

Since the BBM app was released for the likes of iPhone and Android users the service has been downloaded by millions of people, and the company has been busy providing updates adding new features and support.

Now the company has revealed what it plans for the service in the future in a blog post, and users of the Android and iPhone BBM app will soon be able to make free voice calls to other BBM users anywhere in the world.

There will also be the addition of the BBM Channel service that is already available on the BlackBerry platform, which allows users to connect the community beyond their contact list by joining in on conversations.

Users can even create their own channels and chat with other users that share the same interests, which is also a great way to make new contacts. BBM chats is promised to allow users share content really quickly such as images or voice messages with a simple touch of a button, and users will be able to share their location live for a limited amount of time with any contact.

There is also a range of 100 new emoticons promised to be coming that includes many that have been requested by BBM users, which includes the likes of an Epic Fail, Serious Hug, and even a Smiley Poo.

The new features have been promised to arrive on the BB10, Android, and iPhone platforms in the next couple of months with beta testing already underway.

Do you like the look of these new features?

A shame that google voice hardly works at present for the things it was intended to on PC.

Rowan Salabie

I’ve been using Google Voice for years and have never had an issue with it. What are you trying to do that doesn’t work?

Anthon Ondray Adrian Jackman

Yes, I’m excited about the new features. I’m still on my BlackBerry but would consider the jump to Android with those features mentioned above.

Image sparks talk of Galaxy S5 leak

The anticipation for the release of the Samsung Galaxy S5 is growing all the time with constant rumours and speculation emerging, and now an image of a smartphone has sparked talk of a Galaxy S5 leak.

While there has been lots of speculation over the specifications for the Samsung Galaxy S5 not much has appeared revealing the design of the handset, and the image that you can see on this page appeared during a movie called Paranoia that was being watched by Raoul Thomas a Google+ user.

This has led some to comment on the post suggesting that it is a subtle Galaxy S5 leak, which has been seen before with other impending smartphone releases. Some have wondered if it is simply a render created by some graphics artists as there are no navigation buttons.

The operating system on the device also doesn’t look like Android and some have wondered if it’s a Tizen OS running smartphone. It could be nothing to do with Samsung but so far we have heard that the Galaxy S5 could feature a 2K display powered by a 64-bit processor along with a 16-megapixel camera on the rear on the device.

There has also been talk recently of a launch around the Mobile World Congress event in February along with the inclusion of an iris scanner, and there is still some hope that the smartphone will come manufactured from aluminium, but as always until we hear something official at an Unpacked 2014 event we will just have to wait and see.

Looks fake to me. The screen is far too near the edges of the phone. Look at the top right. It’s actually going over the edge of the phone!

Seriously guys? This is clearly not a real phone.
